1974-05-00-Newsletter

Issue No. 3                       May 1974

Dear Mi-Sol-ite,

CLIMATE
During May the temperature in Torrevieja is expected to average 74°F and there will be 9.9. hours of sun each day, compared with figures for London which will be around 65°F and 5.8 hours of sun per day. We do not expect there will be more than five days when it will rain.

MI-SOL SITE DEVELOPMENT
Mi-Sol Owners have now formally took over the day-to-day management of Mi-Sol and Mr. Roland Garser and his staff have already effected a number of improvements in the overall appearance of the Park.

The Grass on Phases I and II has now been cut and the first spraying of the whole area to reduce insects is now complete. The large swimming pool on Phase I has been drained, cleaned and refilled and is now being maintained by the Association's own Swimming Pools Attendant.

A complete survey of the Park has been completed by Joint Secretary Mr. Jack Mead and Technical Associate and will be presented this week to the Owners Committee and the Vendor Mr. Quesada. The survey goes into great detail outlining details of finishing work required before the Association are prepared to accept Mi-Sol as totally complete. It is hoped to be able to let you know the outcome of these negotiations in the next News Letter. In the meantime Mi-Sol-ites can be assured of pleasant holidays at Mi-Sol with the assistance of the Association's own administration.

Mi-Sol Park can now be direct dialled from England. The code is as follows 010-34-65 -710872. Please restrict calls to the Park between 3.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m. English time.

CURRENT PESETA/POUND RATE
The current rate is 140 pesetas for £1 sterling.

SPANISH RECIPE OF THE MONTH Huevas Serranos (Mountain Style Eggs)
Ingredients: 4 medium tomatoes, melted butter, salt, 50 grams of chopped ham, oil, 4 eggs and grated cheese.
Take the tops off the tomatoes and gently scoop out the paulp and seeds leaving the shells intact.  Salt them and leave to drain for a few minutes. Place the tomatoes in an oven dish and add a little knob of butter and chopped ham to each.  In a skillet heat plenty of oil, one at a time break an egg into a cup and gently put it into the hot oil. Let it poach in the oil using a spatula or spoon to lift the white over the yoke giving the egg a round form. The white should be cooked and the yolk still runny.  Remove from oil and put each egg in a tomato shell. Sprinkle tops with grated cheese and add a little more melted butter,  and put in a hot oven or under a grill just until cheese is golden. Serves four.

EVENT TO LOOK OUT FOR

On May 18th in Torrevieja there will be the election of the Queen of the Salt and Maids of Honour in the town's Casino. The coronation of the Queen will be held on or about 22nd May — probably at the Nuevo Cinema.  Note that the Festival of Salt is held later on in the year — probably August 3rd at the Western Pier. The annual boat sale which took place before Easter last year will be in September this year.

EATING OUT IN TORREVIEJA
The Restaurant Miramar which is next to the Club Nautico specialises in fish at reasonable prices. They also serve other Spanish and English dishes but if you are keen on seafood then the Miramar restaurant is the place for you. The Miramar is run by a local Spanish family and you enter the restaurant via the Lounge Bar which includes a television set and is decorated in a typical Spanish style. Open every evening until late.

LOCAL INFORMATION: TORREVIEJA
The nearest hospitals are at Alicante which is 52 kms. or Orihuela which is 30 kms. and is between Murcia and Alicante. For Torrevieja there is a First Aid Post which is run by Nuns. This is called the Clinica D'Urgencia which is for urgent medical cases. This is to be found two roads behind the Post Office. The easiest way to get there, coming along the road from Caragena into Torrevieja you come to traffic lights. You go through the lights and take the 7th on the left, followed by the 3rd on the left and you will find  the Centre on the left. We do stress this is for urgent cases only. Alternatively go to a local hospital at Alicante or Orihuela as we have described above or to a local Doctor. One that we can recommend who speaks English is a Dr. Jose Gimenez. His address is Caizares and is in the centre of Torrevieja. An appointment is normally necessary to see this Doctor.

MORE LOCAL INFORMATION
There is a laundramat in Torrevieja called "Lavasol" (the address is Calle Seville). There is a main telephone exchange and you can make calls to the U.K. from here and the cost is 174 pesetas for three minutes. Again this is to be found in Calle Seville. Ladies, if you want reasonable hairdressers at a reasonable price then we can recommend Juanito which is to be found opposite the Banco Central. Gents, for you also opposite the Banco Central a hairdressers called Ramon.

ENGLISH CAR DEALER
We would like to introduce you to David Loader who runs a used car business called Costa Blanca Coches at La Estrada, a shopping centre on the Valencia road between Altea and Benidorm. Here David Loader will help and advise people who want to own or sell a used car. David came from England three years ago and was in the used car business in Bucks five years before going to Spain with his wife Maragaret. David is able to
offer a package deal including the car and all documentation including insurance with an English Agency. The cars are all guaranteed and he can offer a very good trade-in price or indeed a good price of anyone selling their car and returning to England, and of course he can also supply new cars. If you have a car problem why not try David Loader.

JOKE OF THE MONTH
Did you hear about the boy flea who asked the girl flea to come up to his flat and see his itchings.

THOUGHT OF THE MONTH
When you stretch the truth watch out when it springs back.
